The Art of Self Preservation

Your greatest asset is your health. As an acupuncturist and wellness coach, I believe there is tremendous value in staying healthy. So much I designed my life and career around health and wellness. Every one of us has the power to create the lives we want.

I know most people want to live a more healthy and vital life, but they struggle to make a change or don’t have the information to make a change. Therefore, this year I am going deeper into helping you make life-long changes that will transform your life for good. Wellness is my passion, and it’s all coming together. Self-preservation comes first in my world – so let’s start there together.

The phrase “Yang Sheng Fa” is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has been the foundation of TCM for thousands of years. Yang Sheng Fa translates to “life-nourishing principles.” It is the art of enabling self-cultivation by taking your health into your own hands to prevent illness and preserve well-being.

In essence, Yang Sheng Fa is an ancient self-care approach that considers all pillars of your health. You see, wellness is not a new concept in Asia. However, it has never been a concept in the United States. We are just learning to care for our most valuable assets, health and well-being.

Before you embark on this journey with me, you must understand that wellness is not a static state. You don’t get well and stay well. Defined by the Global Wellness Institute, wellness is an ACTIVE pursuit of activities, choices, and lifestyles that lead to a holistic state of health.

The action of pursuing wellness is self-preservation or self-care. It is essential to living an optimal, positive, productive, long, and healthy life. There is no way around it. Also, wellness is not the absence of disease. It is a holistic state of health. Every area of your life affects your health and well-being. It is essential to practice self-preservation in every area of your life. Here are the pillars of health:

Pillars of Health:
• Nutrition
• Financial Wellness
• Relationships, Connections, and Communication
• Meditation, Mindfulness Breathing exercises
• Physical Exercises and Movement
• Mind Cultivation, Spirituality
• Sleep, Rest, and Recovery
• Personal and Professional Development
• Environment

“Wellness is the integration of body, mind, and spirit – the appreciation that everything you do, and think, and feel, and believe has an impact on your state of health and the health of the world.”

The good news is no matter your current state of health; you can begin to appreciate yourself as a growing and changing person. Wellness starts by practicing self-preservation. Through this practice, you can transform your life. You can change in healthy, positive ways to live a more vital, fulfilling life. Come with me on this adventure and start your journey to wellness today.

I want to leave you with a health and wellness vision exercise to try. Sit somewhere quiet and visualize your optimal state of health. How would your life be different if you discovered a healthy, more confident version of yourself? Describe, in detail, the feelings and things you will experience when you realize this version of yourself. It takes a little work, but it’s worth it. I promise! Remember, change happens slowly, one step at a time.

“It is man himself, not heaven, who governs his life, and he who abuses himself dies young, while he who takes good care of himself enjoys a long life.” – Gao Lian, Ming Dynasty.
